About me
I am a person-centred counsellor based in Bourne End. Whatever issue you need to work through we will take that journey together in a safe, nurturing and non-judgemental space, exploring your thoughts and feelings at your pace.
Although I have the diploma qualifications and professional experience required of a counsellor, I am also a fellow human with life experience so warmth and empathy are my most valuable tools.
I will accept you as you are, giving you space to talk about your situation, endeavouring to learn about your world from your frame of reference.
As well as having a private practice, I am a volunteer counsellor at a local charitable counselling agency.
My philosophy
I view life as a flowing river and we are all swimmers in that river. We are never in the same water at any point in our lives. Our surroundings or closest people may appear constant, but our circumstances, others' circumstances and our emotions are constantly changing and we need to keep swimming. Sometimes we become stuck and ensnarled on obstacles on our path, other times the current can overwhelm us and pull us under. Sometimes we become tired and feel unable to go on.
I endeavour to empower you to find your flow again, helping you unburden yourself and find your own inner resources to move forward and embrace your life with greater confidence. Together we can help you gain a better understanding of yourself and situations that may be troubling you.
The person-centred approach suggests that given the conditions of empathy, unconditional positive regard and authenticity, positive change can occur whatever the issue.
What I can help with
Examples of issues I can help with include anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, health concerns, relationship problems, family conflicts and struggles with self-concept. I can also help you find your confidence and creativity.
Alongside counselling, I work with Alzheimers and Dementia patients and carers. I occasionally work at a hospital spinal unit. I have experience in working with performing artists and the issues they face. However, I welcome everybody from all walks of life into my practice.
I work with adults aged 18+, and older adults.
What to do next
I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation where we can explore your requirements and answer any questions you may have, so that you feel fully informed and comfortable before trying a full face to face session. Please do get in touch using either the telephone number or email address above to arrange this.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Dip.Couns). My modality is person-centred.
Being a registered member of the BACP I am committed to ongoing professional development to ensure that I remain up to date with the latest therapeutic concepts.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
