About me
Hello!
My name is Karen I am a Person Centred / Integrative Counsellor working within my full time private practice based in Rotherham.
Before I qualified as a therapist I worked within the NHS for 11 years, I found the work very rewarding, however working alongside patients with Cancer I discovered that I wasn’t often equipped with the necessary skills in order to facilitate patients (and indeed myself) in processing difficult information that was being delivered to people.
Subsequently, I proceeded to gain the necessary qualifications and Clinical experience in order to practice as a professional Counsellor / Psychotherapist.
My training was undertaken within the NHS, I had the privilege of gaining an Honorary Placement; I worked alongside other professionals’ and gained the experience of the client’s hospital journey; eg sitting in on consultations with Doctors, Nurses and Sonographers and being in the consultation / sonographer room when prognosis was being delivered.
These experiences were valuable as I witnessed first hand the clients’ personal hospital journey before some of them being referred or referring themselves to the hospital Counselling Service.
I have also worked within the YWCA. The YWCA supports women, some whom were facing issues like homelessness, street workers and offenders. The service was invaluable not only to the people who used the service but to me too; I developed my understanding of social, cultural, economic, educational and geographical issues that affect our society.
In 2008 (until 2015) I was part of a small team that developed a local Counselling Service, My work involved working within this specialist centre that offers Counselling / Psychotherapy to women and men who are affected by PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), panic attacks anxiety, depression and other symptoms associated with trauma or other transitional life experiences.
I offer a kind, warm and compassionate space in order for you to explore and process your personal life experiences. I have personal experience in Mindfulness / focusing, holding a personal practice for many years.
I am committed to my own self awareness, I attend Continued Personal and Professional Development Training in order to facilitate my own self understanding and development.
I am now offering somatic sexuality coaching for women.
If after reading this page you would like to speak to me, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Member organisations
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
