About me

My name is Karen and I offer Therapeutic Counselling for Adults, Creative Counselling for Children and Holistic Therapy and Therapeutic Life Coaching.

I can offer a place for you to feel heard and understood, without feeling judged or criticized. It can be the first step towards change and a more positive future. People may come to counselling because they feel stuck and cannot move forward.

One of the aims of counselling is to explore aspects of ourselves that promote healing and recovery. I can work with you to enable you to have a better understanding of yourself and your relationships.

I have a deep interest in the psychology of Carl Jung, this has led me to take on a more creative holistic approach (mind, body and soul). Through this, I became more aware of the body’s energy systems and this encouraged me to focus on a person's overall wellbeing.

I can help individuals on their journey to finding their true life and self-improvement. By working together at your own pace we can explore tools and techniques that can empower you to find your own inner path journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

My practice draws on strengths from different schools of therapy, including Person Centred, Solution Focus and Creativity. I like to work holistically to integrate mind and body, as when we feel good emotionally we can feel good physically.

I have worked for many years with children and young people counselling in schools and also in private practice with children and adults. My work focused on creative counselling using art, play and imagery as I feel that many of our fears and anxieties are deeply locked within our unconscious.

We all need help in certain times of our lives. I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. My approach is supportive and offers the tools to equip you towards a resolution and peace of mind.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Creative Counselling for Children

Children have their own worries and anxieties but unlike most adults, they find it difficult to verbalise their emotions or to talk about what is troubling them.

I specialise in working with children up until the age of 13 years old.

A very sensitive approach is necessary when working with this age group, as they find it difficult to make sense of their mixed emotions and feelings.

I believe in early intervention and catching problems early. If left unheard, often children's distress can manifest into more troublesome and unmanageable thoughts or actions in later life.

I use a combination of creativity and conversation when working with children, depending on the child's age and developmental stage. This includes a mixture of play therapy and art, including arts and crafts, storytelling, drama, sand tray work and the use of metaphor. Play and creativity come naturally to children and by using these methods it can safely enable the child to reveal their inner world and tell their story.

The process of understanding the child's perspective occurs at their pace and in their unique way. In this way, they are supported to work through painful or uncomfortable emotions.

Therapeutic Counselling for Adults

Using an integrative approach I use a combination of person-centred talking therapy and with a solution-focused approach. Which means that together we can work towards identifying any issue and working towards a desired solution. I can work with you to help you work through any areas in your life where you feel “stuck” and need to find ways to move forward.

It is not unusual at times to experience difficulties in our lives; work, relationships, health, finances, family. These are just some of the areas that can become overwhelming which is why talking to someone can really help you to lead a more satisfying life.

My way of working is to provide a safe, accepting space where you feel truly seen and heard. Here I can help you to explore the past, understand your present and direct your future.

Therapeutic Coaching

As a Therapeutic Life Coach, I combine some elements of counselling, while predominantly using a coaching perspective. I like to empower people so that they can be their true and best self, my aim is to help you to reconnect you to your heart, body, mind and soul to rewire your mind and reframe your emotions.

Together we can work through your inner limitations, gain clarity on your life purpose and create goals and real strategies for your success.
