About me

I am an Accredited Counsellor, registered since 2002 with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP); a senior level counsellor and supervisor with the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO) and a registered member of Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC).  My professional experience as a counsellor has been mainly in the NHS, as well as in private practice.  I previously worked as both a midwife and nurse for over 27 years. I offer counselling on either a short term (six to twelve sessions), medium or long term basis.

I moved my practice online during the global pandemic of 2020 and trained to continue to do so as recommended by BACP and ACTO.  I enjoy working online, I see the screen as an open doorway to developing the therapeutic relationship and a level of trust to work psychologically.

I am dyslexic and am happy to identify as neurodivergent.  My way of processing information and the world can be different to others who identify as neurotypical.  Some of the clients and supervisees I work with are autistic and/or ADHD, as well as being dyslexic.  We work together with an understanding our differences and similarities.

Counselling and how I work
Counselling provides the space for you to talk about the situation(s) in your life that you are finding confusing, difficult, distressing, painful, sad or even unbearable.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is an important foundation for counselling. I aim to provide a confidential, safe and supportive environment for us to work together. You will have the opportunity to gain insight and/or increasing awareness about how you relate to your environment, other people, as well as yourself. The patterns you use to live your life may be challenged at times as we explore together how you make sense of your world and the interruptions in your life. As you gain increasing awareness, the choices you make as you live your life are made in conscious awareness, giving you a sense of empowerment.  There will be times when we laugh together and sometimes we may be serious.  I want to welcome into a safe and welcoming therapeutic space.

Come and find out what working online therapeutically is like, I offer a free introduction lasting between 15 to 20 minutes. Subsequent sessions are 60 minutes long and are charged for. The first session is an assessment that includes finding a focus for the work we will do. There will be a review half way through the number of sessions we have decided to work together for. Our last session will be a summary of the sessions and ending our work together.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC)

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
