About me
My name is Karen and I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor. I imagine you are here because something in your life is troubling you, holding you back or preventing you from feeling secure, happy and fulfilled. We can all, at certain points in our life face overwhelming emotions that we don't understand and difficulties that can leave us feeling distressed, out of control and overwhelmed. Whatever this is caused by, be it through anxiety, depression, work related issues, family issues, or low self confidence, it can result in us suffering mentally, emotionally and physically. Clients enter therapy for various reasons but it is always your own unique journey. You may want to look at the past, work on the present or question what matters to you and decide on goals for the future. We often struggle alone with our problems but you don't have to....
Working to the ethical standards of the BACP, I offer a safe and confidential space for you to be heard free from judgement while we explore and process together what has bought you to therapy. As an integrative counsellor we can discuss using different therapies to use if it is felt to be beneficial, alongside building a healing therapeutic relationship based on trust, safety and respect. I work with a wide range of issues and have special interests in trauma, and historic trauma.
I know from my own experience that choosing to embark upon therapy is, whilst a courageous decision, a difficult decision and one that can also feel daunting. It is understandable that you may have questions and want clarity, wish to understand the process better or be reassured that counselling is right for you. It is therefore essential that you feel your therapist is someone you can trust and who understands your world. If you call or email me then I will be happy to arrange a free 30 minute consultation to answer any questions and ensure we will work well together. In that session we can discuss what it is you hope to achieve through counselling and if you would like to book a further session.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
