Counselling and Psychotherapy
Are you wanting to make some changes in your life? Are you troubled by distressing and persistent emotions, confusing thoughts, or finding yourself stuck in repeating patterns of behaviour that are making you unhappy? Do you want to improve your relationship with your partner or are you worried about your family or work relationships? If so, you may be considering professional help but are unsure how to go about this.
I am a creative and collaborative psychotherapist with many years experience in the NHS and the public sector as well as my own private practice. I am a qualified Couples and Family Therapist and am also an EMDR Consultant.
Couples and Family Therapy
Relationships can be one of the greatest sources of happiness in our lives. They can also contribute to profound frustration and distress. As a Systemic Psychotherapist I recognise the influence of our past relationships (especially those from our childhood), on our current relationships e.g. with partners, children, friends and colleagues. I aim to help people identify the patterns in their relationships and the changes they would like to work towards. This may involve working with whole families, couples or individuals, or a combination. I facilitate each person to communicate their experience as well as to listen to each other. Making changes in our relationships and generating new solutions can be very challenging and I endeavour to support and encourage each person. As an active participant in the therapy, I seek and value feedback.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a powerful therapy used for treating psychological symptoms resulting from traumatic experiences such as assault, road traffic or workplace accidents, bullying, childhood abuse and neglect, complex bereavement, war related experiences etc. Symptoms of such experiences typically include post traumatic stress disorder, flashbacks, nightmares, sleep disturbance, anger problems, avoidance of all reminders of the trauma, numbness, and relationship difficulties. EMDR is also used to help with other difficulties such as chronic anxiety, including sports and performance anxiety. It has proved to be helpful with children as well as adults. It is an innovative and powerful treatment, used within some NHS trusts and recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).
I am trained in both EMDR and Systemic Couples and Family Therapy and use either or sometimes both, dependant on the needs and wishes of those I work with.
Supervision, Consultation and Training
I also offer supervision, consultation and training to other health and social care professionals.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
