About me

You don’t have to go through this all alone. Are you feeling numb, overwhelmed, angry or in despair? Does everything feel like a task that’s too much to contemplate, let alone complete? Or are your relationships not working? I’ll be at your side to help repair that hurt, pain or numbness. I know something of those feelings too, and how they can stem from what happened to you or your people in the past.
Maybe you’re frightened of going to sleep, or of being awake, and this might be affecting your relationships, your work or your life in general.
I can work with you on all sorts of problems, including feeling anxious and sad. My clients sometimes have the sense that they don’t quite fit in, have low self-esteem, or that they are different from expected norms. Many have said that they carry me with them when we’re not together, and use my voice to help calm their overwhelm or uncertainty.

Sometimes the feelings can arise from hormonal changes like the menopause, and I'm happy to work with you on this.

My clients often find new energy and discover things they never knew about themselves and their past. This helps them to recalibrate their sour relationships and lift those feelings of despair and hopelessness.

If any of this speaks to you, head over to my website www.karenadlertherapy.com to set up an introductory session with me or book a short confidential chat. We can then book in the first six weeks to get to know each other before we decide to work together over a longer time.

It’s so important to find the right person with whom to explore these difficult, and perhaps shameful, parts of yourself, so call or text me on 07942682586 or email me and I aim to respond within 24 hours on a weekday. All sessions take place online and are for individuals over the age of 18.
Together let’s start the change that you so desire.

Training, qualifications & experience

I undertook a four-year training in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, where I gained a Master's degree (MSc) in Integrative Psychotherapy. As part of these studies, I completed a research project on intergenerational trauma. This explored the impact that a background of the Holocaust or enslavement could have. It makes me particularly sensitive to these painful and complicated inheritances.

I have done further training in working with suicide, trauma, narcissism and obsession, eating disorders, goal-setting, coaching, anti-racist practice, neuroscience, sex, body and breath work, domestic violence and sexual violence. I continually update my practice with additional training.

I also have a BA and a PhD in history, and taught in universities for many years. There I specialised in the study of historical trauma in the twentieth century.

I have worked for Mind, and an agency that offered therapy to survivors of rape and sexual violence, and have been in private practice for several years.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I work with people who are struggling, or who want to find out more about themselves. I focus on you, the individual, not your condition.
