Kaiqing Yang, MA (Counselling & Psychotherapy), MBACP
Together, let's make more of tomorrow, today!
Who am I?
I’m a person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist with Master’s degree, and a member of the BACP. I'm a co-founder of a counselling partnership Abbott & Yang. Unlike most private counsellors who work as sole practitioners or traders, we work as a team. We pull our knowledge and experience together and support each other professionally and emotionally to conduct a better service.
I grew up in Mainland China and Hong Kong. Moving to England was a life-changing choice that I've never regretted. Being a psychotherapist give me the honour to know each of my client, form deep connections, and witness the powerful changes they make. I found my independence and power and have walked through my own difficulties, I'd love to help you do the same.
I’ve counselled at a Derby’s women service, several Nottingham colleges, and a youth centre in China. I can counsel in fluent English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. I hope to connect with people from all different backgrounds and help you find your strength and make changes that are right for you.
What I do and where I do it
Person-centred counselling and psychotherapy is an internationally recognised and scientifically evidence-based form of talking therapy which can be provided to individuals, couples or groups of clients.
Person-centred counselling is a non-judgmental approach which treats clients as their own best experts. Being listened to attentively, deeply understood, and highly valued as a person in a trusting therapeutic relationship, you are offered the safe space to recover and heal, explore and discover, change and improve. And I hope to meet you in this relationship as my genuine self, accompany you throughout the process and be there with you when you need me most.
I counsel from professional therapy rooms close to both Nottingham and Loughborough town centres. I also offer online counselling and by arrangement at other venues convenient to you.
My office address, for written correspondence, is on Nottingham University’s Jubilee Campus.
Who I help
Through my counselling partnership, I offer one-to-one sessions, group work, and also online counselling to:
- International students and workers.
- UK students.
- Business / corporate clients.
- Private individuals.
What I help with
I'd like to consider that I'm working with you as a person, not your labels or illness. There is a long list of ticked things which counselling may help with below. However, person-centred approach is non-diagnostic, and I respect that each of you are unique and have your own very special experience that cannot be represented by a single term.
And counselling is not only about fixing a broken life, it is also about improving and flourishing. It is not about changing the environment we are in, but preparing us with bigger and stronger tires for the bumpy roads.
What's different about my service?
I counsel from within a culturally diverse partnership, and my colleague and I have a unique combination of skills, knowledge and experience gained from different cultures, life events, professional, industrial and academic settings. We support each other through our own difficulties, and are very much here for you together.
My counselling partner and I see clients separately but can also work collaboratively to make the most of our experience, knowledge and multi-cultural backgrounds, to provide you with the support you need, at the time you need it most.
