Julie Porter RNA, BSc (Hons) Registered MBACP

Sometimes, life just gets to much and you can start to feel overwhelmed with emotions. You may feel unable to reach out and speak to someone, you may feel lonely, isolated and unable to know what to do. It takes courage to take the first step to make the decision to seek help. Counselling, in the right environment, can provide a secure contained, place to explore any difficulties that you are experiencing. It can be a sense of relief, for some people, to speak out,b heard and understood. The process that you go through in therapy is the beginning of you changing the rest of your life. It can take you from the darkest moments into the light. It is a powerful embrace of insight, self-awareness and self-love. One that I would encourage anyone who was thinking of embarking on counselling to do.
I work in a way that is person centred to build up a trusting relationship between myself and my clients. I work in a Rogerian approach which provides empathy, congruence and a non-judgemental environment to help build a relationship up and create the foundations for growth and change. I integrate other theories and I like to work creatively with the use of art therapy. I believe that all my clients are unique and that integration provide me with knowledge of different theories that I can draw on to support different ways of working. I have supervision to ensure that my clients are getting the right kind of therapy that meets their individuality.
I am an online therapist working with video conferencing via zoom, email, text and phone counselling. I have studied CPD to ensure that I am skilled to work online and I have a good understanding of how to support clients using this medium apposed to face-face work due to the current conditions we are facing with the Covid19 outbreak.
I have had the most moving, challenging, cartharic, self-rewarding experience throughout my journey in counselling. So much so that I now am in a place to give back to others who are in need of support.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
