Julie Jarman, MA Counselling (CBT), EMDR, Registered MBACP
About me
Julie Jarman, MA Counselling, Registered MBACP, Member BABCP
We all deal with life's issues in different ways. Based in the centre of Tewkesbury I offer a safe and confidential space to help you work through the things that have brought you to counselling, in a manner that sits well with who you are and helps you view your situation from fresh perspectives.
I work in comfortable rooms situated in the new Devereux Centre on the same site as Tewkesbury Community Hospital just a few minutes away from Junction 9 on the M5.
Nothing is too trivial despite what others may think or say. If something is holding you back then it is is important and worth spending time looking at more closely. This can be hard work as it might mean having to acknowledge difficult or painful thoughts and feelings that have been kept at bay but I can support you as you consider how to best make use of the resources you have within yourself that will enable you to move forward.
You may have a specific issue that is troubling you or you may just feel 'stuck' in your life. Either way, counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or EMDR offers the opportunity to work through your distress or 'stuckness' and can provide the momentum you may need to help you manage your situation more effectively.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with their Code of Ethics and Practice.I am also a member of BACP Spirituality and the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and I belong to the EMDR Association of the UK and Ireland.
- Postgraduate Certificate EMDR
- EMDR Europe Levels 1 - 4 Certificate
- MA Counselling (CBT)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling
- Further and Adult Education Teaching Certificate
- Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management
- BA Hons
I worked as the Head of Counselling for a charitable counselling organisation for several years and I have been a volunteer counsellor for two counselling charities for a number of years
My initial training, to Masters level, was in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) but subsequent training and experience of other counselling models means I am able to offer flexibility and will use the approach best suited to your needs and personality. I am qualified in EMDR therapy to Postgraduate Certificate Level. EMDR is an approved therapy for trauma by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). We will work together to find out what works best for you and we will regularly review our sessions to ensure we are moving in the right direction.
I work with adults on an individual basis and have experience of counselling people for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement or relationship issues. Many people have talked about feelings associated with low self esteem or lack of confidence and some have come as a result of past experiences and painful memories that are impacting their ability to enjoy life now.
Prior to my work as a counsellor I spent many years involved in recruitment, training and Management Development in manufacturing, education and insurance. These experiences enabled me to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and interests and added to my awareness of the variety of stresses and strains life can bring. These experiences also made me very aware of the tremendous resources people have within themselves to overcome adversity. I consider that part of my work as your counsellor is to help you identify and tap into the resources you have within yourself that will enable you to make the changes you would like to see in your life.
Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
