About me

Julie Dods Integrative Counsellor

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a professional diploma in therapeutic counselling. My website is https://www.melioracounselling.co.uk/

Why counselling?

Life can get in the way. Often there doesn’t seem time to absorb what has happened or how it has affected us. Dealing with anxiety, stress, grief and loss are always hard, dealing with them in a pandemic is even harder.

Counselling provides a safe space to slow down and talk through whatever is troubling you to help improve your well-being.

What to expect.

All sessions will always be led by you, this will be your safe space to bring anything that you wish to the session.

In our first session session together, I will ask some questions so we can explore whatever is going on for you. This provides the opportunity to get to know each other and to also give me a deeper understanding of your Life experiences.
This also provides you with the opportunity to decide if I am the right counsellor for you. If you are to choose me then sessions are normally on a weekly basis for 50 minutes.

How can I help?

Sometimes we find ourselves in situations not of our choosing. Having another person to bounce things off can be freeing from persistent troubling thoughts and feelings. I offer you my full professional support without judgement and a promise of confidentiality. Together, step-by-step we can look at new ways of being and find the best way forward for you.

About me.

Being passionate about helping people has led me to become a qualified counsellor.

Experience.

I have gained experience working with anxiety, depression, grief, self esteem and many other issues that can cause conflict and personal problems in people’s lives on a daily basis. I work as a one-to-one counsellor but also have experience helping facilitate the bereavement group at the local hospice.
During Covid I did work online or on telephone but I now only offer face-to-face and walk and talk therapy both in covid safe environments. Over the years, I have met some amazing people as a counsellor. I have learnt something from most of my clients. Witnessing people’s growth and change has been very rewarding and I feel privileged to have been part of their journeys.

My varied approach is drawn from different therapies. This means I can ensure that when we work together, it will be in a way that best suits you.

Types of counselling

I offer face-to-face counselling in Brentwood.
I also offer walk and talk therapy in Brentwood Billericay and Chelmsford area.

Walk and Talk

This is an alternative to working with me in the traditional therapy room. Being outdoors can help the therapeutic process by boosting mental health, improving mood and helping reduce stress levels. - t -

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
