About me

Hello and welcome.

I have been providing therapy in a variety of settings in Shropshire since 2006. The two models of therapy I practice are Person-Centred Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Wanting a better life for ourselves and for our families is something many of us think about. A better life will mean different things to each of us. It may mean a happier life, a less stressful life or one that has a better work/life balance. It may mean having the energy and enthusiasm to face the day, to not feel anxious in social situations or to overcome a fear that has affected you for years. If you have struggled with depression, anxiety, anger, or any other of the many negative emotions in life, then maybe you would like some help to deal with that. It is not always easy to talk about your problems or to express your feelings.  I understand this can be a difficult process and will support you through treatment, at a pace you are comfortable with.  I offer a safe, confidential space for you to talk about yourself and the problems you are struggling with.  Together we will work towards helping you manage your problems so you are better equipped to deal with life’s many challenges in the future.

About CBT

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy looks at how you think and what you do in relation to specific situations that you find difficult to manage.  I will help you identify any unhelpful thoughts and / or behaviours that affect how you feel when you are in those situations.  Together we will challenge those thoughts and behaviours, in a way, and at a pace that you are comfortable with.  I will teach you the tools and techniques so that you can manage situations in a more helpful way in the future and so ultimately you feel better.

About Counselling

Counselling is an opportunity for you to talk about the difficulties you are experiencing.  You may want to talk about current problems you are facing, or perhaps something from your past that you have difficulty coping with.  Whatever the issues, Counselling offers you a space and time to focus on the things bothering you.  I will listen to what you have to say, how you feel, how the problem affects you and others and will accept you without judging you.  I will help you make the changes you would like to happen.  Together we will work with you towards improving your well-being.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BA (Hons) Psychology

I have worked in a variety of settings, including a Young Offenders Institution, Residential Care for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, Social Services working with young people who had been in care, CRUSE Bereavement Care and most recently the NHS.

The experience I have gained in CBT and Counselling means I am able to draw on a wealth of tools and techniques to help you with a wide range of issues.  This could include, but is not limited to; depression, anxiety or worries, stress, OCD, phobias, PTSD, panic, bereavement, health related issues, pain management, relationship issues, abuse, self-esteem and self-harm.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
