About me

Hello and welcome to my information page. I offer psychotherapy and counselling to adults in both online video and face-to-face settings.

As a psychotherapist, I have the privilege of sharing in each client’s personal exploration to a more satisfying way of living. My motivation began, and continues to be, with my own experience as a client, my curiosity and determination to grow by defining and honouring my experience and my beliefs. So as a therapist I offer and share my curiosity, tenacity, attention, excitement, to support my clients to foster and honour their own experience and beliefs.

In my experience, psychotherapy and counselling can have a significant impact on our lives, it offers an opportunity to develop our relationship to ourselves and to others in new and more fulfilling ways. I believe that our experience begins with our relationship to ourselves. So learning about how we experience ourselves emotionally, behaviourally and physically, informs us personally and professionally.

I work with adults: individuals and couples.

Areas of interest include:

The areas I work with include: low mood, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, bereavement, loss, trauma, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, stress, relationship issues, personal growth and more- this is not an exhaustive list so do get in touch if you would like to explore working with me.

Training, qualifications & experience

I accredited as a humanistic psychotherapist with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) in 2003 with Spectrum Therapy. (Reg. 04156134) and I am a Registered Member of the BACP. (Reg. 150458)

I work eclectically using a range of models and influences including gestalt, working relationally, formative psychology and polyvagal theory.

I have over twenty years’ experience in private practice as a psychotherapist, combined with a decade each of practicing in the NHS as a counsellor in a GP Surgery and as a Bereavement, Loss and Trauma counsellor in a hospital setting.

I qualified as an online psychotherapist having trained with the Online Therapy Institute as a Certified Cyber Therapist to work online and I'm a member of ACTO (Association for Counselling & Therapy Online) Member No. 0644.

I am also qualified to work with adults who have been adopted and have a Certificate in Adoption Support Counselling.

Continued Professional Development:

I am a member of two on going professional groups; A post-graduate continuation group and an on going  - Formative Psychology – professional dream group.  As well as attending further training on other subjects that interest me, including the growing understanding of neuroscience and polyvagal theory.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
