About me

Hi I'm Julia
I am a qualified counsellor offering one to one counselling in Chippenham.
If you feel like the rest of the world doesn't understand you? If you feel that you have lost your way and you need a sympathetic ear to hear what you have to say.
If you feel you are struggling with your feelings and emotions and would like to explore how you can turn things around and start living a more rewarding life, I can help.

About me

I am a humanistic psychotherapeutic counsellor living and working in Chippenham Wiltshire. My job is to explore what would be best for you and support you while you achieve this and find the right path for you without assuming I know better than you how to deal with your problems. Life offers us such exciting possibilities which can sometimes cause stress and anxiety, sometimes we are treated badly by others and need help to understand why. Counselling can help us find ways to change the things we can change and gain acceptance about the things we can't. Seeing our lives in a calm and compassionate way can help us move on to a more fulfilling life and this is what I would like to offer you.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and support their principles and guidelines.
I work in a person centred way which means I will listen to you without judgement and with empathy, respect and compassion to help you explore your concerns and problems by helping you explore your issues carefully and support as you find acceptance of the past and move into the future.
Talking therapy can be extremely useful particularly in this age when people are so busy and it can become difficult to find someone to really listen to you either because of your busy lifestyle or maybe because it's too painful or too difficult to share with a friend or family member. Having no-one to share your problems with can cause anxiety and stress and this has an impact on all areas of life including relationships and work.
Counselling can also help when you feel unsure of what is wrong and maybe just feel that you need to explore or find a more authentic version of yourself- maybe someone you feel more comfortable being or can relate too without feeling that you're missing out on something. It can also help if you feel you are missing out on your friendships- maybe you have difficulty making or keeping friends or you find friendships difficult and wish you had more confidence. Counselling can help you explore or resolve issues within your relationship with your partner or family. Maybe you have a history of failed relationships and you would like a better insight into why this happens.
I offer counselling sessions in Chippenham Wiltshire, from my home in a purpose built office offering you comfort and confidentiality. Having my office in my home helps me offer sessions at times to suit you so that we can work around your routine and other commitments you might have. This also means that if you want to you can come to therapy without needing to excuse yourself from work making your experience of counselling more confidential and convenient.  Daytime and evening appointments available including weekend appointments.
Please feel free to call me to arrange a time suitable for you or just to discuss what you feel your needs might be.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I also have experience in counselling clients who have needed support when coming to terms with difficult issues within their family- either complex family issues or separation from a partner and the effect this has on the family as a whole, and have helped them to gain an understanding of what is happening and how they can best deal with these difficult times and gain some perspective of their problems and help them find solutions and support.
I can also provide insight and support for clients working through their complex feeling around divorce or affairs and other betrayals from a loved one which can caused immense anxiety and heart ache.
