Julia Anderson MBACP (Accredited), Pg Dip, BA (Hons)
I am a qualified person-centred counsellor & supervisor, with 14 years’ post-qualifying experience of providing counselling and support to people in a variety of settings. I have worked extensively within Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), supporting clients with a wide variety of issues, both personal and work-related, and continue to do so. I also have experience of working within an NHS GP setting and with various charitable organisations. I am also highly experienced in carrying out assessments to determine the suitability of counselling and other types of therapies for individuals.
If you approach me about counselling, we will have an an initial telephone conversation where I will carry out a brief screening to find out more about the reasons you are looking for counselling. This will be followed by a more in-depth assessment at our first session, if we choose to meet. This is in order to determine if person-centred counselling may be the right approach for you.
Counselling has the potential to help with a wide variety of issues. Those with which I have the most experience are depression, anxiety, relationship issues, change & transitions; bereavement; workplace issues; trauma; and childhood experiences causing difficulties for the adult individual.
My approach is to provide an emotionally safe, independent place where you can explore your difficulties while feeling supported to make your own connections, and decide what may be the best way forward for yourself. I am able to support you while we together consider the range of ways in which your issues may be addressed, managed and improved.
Supervision for counsellors and trainees
I also offer counselling supervision, where I strive to offer an equally safe space for supervisees to explore their counselling work, its impact on them, and related issues which may impact their practice and themselves. I offer supervision for both experienced counsellors and students of counselling or counselling psychology.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BA Honours in English & Psychology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, both from the University of Strathclyde. In addition I hold a certificate in Counselling Supervision, from the University of Strathclyde’s counselling unit. I also have a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, which is part of what helps to inform my work with workplace issues, as well as my years of experience working within corporate settings.
I have been a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) since 2005 and and accredited with them since 2010.
