About me

It can feel difficult to reach out for emotional help, especially with those close to us, when we have family or personal issues and life becomes overwhelming and stressful. This can sometimes be for fear of burdening others or creating a worse outcome. Sometimes it is hard to know where to start when seeking help, if we are feeling anxious and searching for the right help can seem daunting as counselling support can vary depending on the core theoretical counselling training. However, the most important thing to remember is that you have already taken the first step to finding the emotional support you need right now, which takes courage.

I wonder if you have ever wondered why life can sometimes feel like Groundhog Day, feel like you are repeating similar behaviour and experiencing similar outcomes. My theoretical core approach is Psychodynamic where we will explore how these past experiences may be affecting or influencing your life today. Together we can also seek further understanding of your present concerns and emotional difficulties through use of other therapeutic models for example Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This can help to address and identify the emotional triggers and the familiar behavioural responses to help seek more healthy ways to respond, think, and feel.

I offer a professional and authentic counselling relationship in which you will experience empathy, and care in a safe, comfortable, and confidential space to address your struggles and discover the emotional balance and wellbeing for which you are searching. The counselling relationship is key in facilitating change based on trust and a non judgemental environment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am able to offer long term (open ended) or short term therapy (8 - 12 weeks) to suit individual needs and have worked extensively with both adults and young people from 12 upwards.

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Hertfordshire (2011).

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

As well as my private practice, I have been working for many years as a secondary school counsellor, working with teenagers between 11 and 18 years, with presenting issues such as anxiety, low self esteem, performance related stress and self harm.

Previously, I have spent time volunteering for a hospice, counselling adults/children affected by pre and post bereavement experiences of loved ones, as well as supporting those facing terminal illness.

I have also worked as a counsellor in a North London based charitable organisation providing counselling for those experiencing child/neonatal bereavement also working with women affected by domestic abuse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
