Judith Franklin MBACP Registered Accredited Counsellor
Therapy In Mind Cheshire
4, Stamford Road
Hello and welcome to Good Life Therapy Counselling. If you're reading this, then I guess you might be feeling stressed and anxious, or maybe you're feeling sad and depressed.
Why come to me?
Perhaps, you have long-term general anxiety, which prevents you from doing the things you want to do, in your personal life and/or in the workplace. You may be coping with anxiety and/or depression through work-related stress, or family/relationship issues. Anxiety and depression can cause acute distress and affect your ability to cope with everyday life
If you are struggling with life-changing issues, such as bereavement, ill-health, relationship breakdown, or trauma, you may feel overwhelmed, lonely and confused. At times like these, it's not surprising that you feel isolated, as your issues may involve those closest to you and they are often struggling themselves. It might simply be that you feel your family/friends have heard it all before and you don't want to burden them any more than you already have.
Having worked for over ten years in a variety of settings, including a GP’s practice, two local charities and now Private Practice, I have gained considerable experience in helping clients to regain self confidence and improve their resilience. I can help you to manage your issues more effectively and find more positive ways of living your life.
I will work along side you, providing non-judgmental and unbiased feedback; I want to understand what it's like to be in your shoes, so that you feel heard and understood. Just knowing that you have someone to talk to on a regular basis can help you through difficult times in your life.
Maybe you want to make changes in your life, but feel stuck and scared to move out of your comfort zone. As a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, who has worked with a wide variety of issues, I can help you to rediscover your hidden strengths and resources and in the process restore your confidence and self-esteem.
I am also an experienced couples counsellor and have worked with couples of all ages over the years. One of the most common issues is a breakdown in communication, which leads to the couple drifting apart and they can often end up living separate lives, as virtual strangers to each other. Couples can become so negative about their relationship, that separation/divorce seems the only option left. This is a sad state of affairs and it really needn't be like this.
I have worked with many couples who have told me that couples therapy saved their marriage/relationship.

As a person-centred counsellor, I believe it is important to give you the freedom to explore your issues in a way of your choosing. My style of counselling is not directive. In other words, I don't plan the sessions in advance or structure them in a particular way. However, I do work in an holistic way and will share my knowledge and expertise with you as appropriate.
My aim is to offer a safe, accepting, therapeutic space, where you feel able to share your thoughts and feelings.
I can help you to find more positive ways of living your life by offering strategies, which will help you to reduce your anxiety/stress in the long term and improve your overall wellbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience
Registered, Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People 2009
Advanced Post Diploma Certificate Person Centred Couples Course 2014
Foundation for Infant Loss Accredited Provider 2018
My previous experience includes four years working at the Counselling and Family Centre, Altrincham. In addition to counselling adults and young people, I gained experience in working with couples and completed couples training, alongside regular supervision, while working there. More recently, I have undergone further person-centred couples training.
I was also actively involved in several projects designed to extend our service; one being an outreach service to adults in the community, in which I worked with a number of clients in their own homes. This gave me an insight into the impact of long-term ill health on mental well-being and I have since worked with a number of clients with this issue in my private practice.
Latterly, I worked for Beacon Counselling in Stockport as a volunteer counsellor, working with adults in a GP setting. This post also gave me an opportunity to work with young mums in the community, on stress management workshops. The workshops were designed to give practical help and strategies to young women experiencing family problems. I have continued to work with stress management in my private practice, both with individuals and in workshops in the community.
I have been in private practice for over 5 years and take private referrals as well as working for Employee Assistance Programmes. Workplace stress is an issue I work with regularly, with clients who are referred through the EAP system
In addition to my private practice, I have co-facilitated group workshops in Stress Management and Menopause Issues in Altrincham and Didsbury.

Book the first three sessions in advance at a reduced cost of £135.00.
£65.00 per session for couples - a session is 75 mins
How Many Sessions will I Need?
This depends on a number of factors:
- whether the issue is recent or longstanding
- how easy or difficult you find it to talk about
- the nature of the problem
During your first appointment, we will talk about the issues you want to focus on. This initial session gives us time to decide how we both feel about working together. Following our discussion, I will normally arrange to see you for a further six sessions, with a review on the sixth session. I will not usually put a limit on the number of sessions, unless you request time-limited counselling.
Location and Access
Please note the rooms in Hale and Bowdon have no disabled access.
However, I can offer counselling in your own home if you live in Trafford or North Cheshire and have issues such as:
- Severe Anxiety/Agoraphobia
- Physical Disability
- Caring Responsibilities which restrict your free time.
