About me

As an experienced Psychotherapist I offer a confidential space for individuals or couples to find a positive way forward through long or short term counselling and psychotherapy.   I also offer supervision to students and practitioners.

My approach is to understand what is important for you in helping you work towards making the changes you seek. Ultimately you are the expert on you and I will offer my knowledge and experience to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and whatever is bringing you into this work.

My experience as a psychotherapist, my previous nursing career and my experience of life enable me to work compassionately and effectively with a range of issues.

I work with long term and recent difficulties - including but not exclusively, relationship issues, family issues, depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexual abuse, trauma, anger, identity and self esteem.
This is not a definitive list and I welcome enquiries.

Relationship therapy includes any combination of two individuals who are struggling within, or want to improve their relationship.

While I also work with immediate crisis, many of the difficulties we encounter in the present relate in some way to our early experiences - how we made sense of ourselves, our relationships and how we learned to manage in the world.

I have learned a great deal from the clients I have worked with and through research and study to find out how we can work through the legacy of painful events in the past without re-traumatisation in the present. Patience, pace and trust are key components to this kind of work alongside the development of a range of internal and external resources that I will help you find.

My private practice is situated in a therapy room alongside my home in a quiet residential area a short walk from central Guildford. There is free on and off street parking.

I am a member and work within the guidelines of the UKATA ,ITAA, EATA, BACP and UKCP.

I am also a member of TAG (Trauma and Abuse Group) and PODS (Positive Outcomes for Dissociative Survivors)

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Certified Transactional Analyst (Psychotherapy) a qualified Trauma Therapist, Relationship Therapist, and Supervisor.

I attend regular ongoing trainings to ensure my work is in line with current research and a professional approach.

My particular interest and experience lies in Trauma therapy, Attachment issues, Relationships, Depression, Complex Bereavement, Illness and/or pain of unknown origin, and a range of other issues, often difficult to clearly identify, that are related to events early in life sometimes even before birth.

I attend a variety of ongoing trainings in Relationship therapy to facilitate a broad and flexible approach to this complex and rewarding work.

I have additional trainings in working with Trauma, eating disorders and self harm.

As a State Registered Nurse, an Intensive Care Sister and District Nursing Sister I have extensive nursing experience overseas, within the NHS and private hospitals in both acute and chronic healthcare.
As an accredited Reflexologist I also worked in and continue to support Complementary healthcare.

I have spent many years living overseas which feeds into my curiosity of what it is to be human and my understanding and welcoming of working with diversity.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.
