About me

Hello, I am a qualified counsellor and member of the British Association of counselling and psychotherapy. I am passionate about my job, and work hard to help people overcome their problems, whatever they may be. I believe counselling to be extremely effective if provided in a safe non-judgemental way and with honesty and commitment. My experience tells me that with commitment on both sides of the counselling relationship, anyone can make positive changes in their life. For most of us at some point or another, life can become very difficult, circumstances in our lives can change or become overwhelming, some relationships can also feel complicated or difficult. We can sometimes feel angry, frustrated, sad or trapped and unable to change things. Having the new perspective and focus of a counsellor can really help in these situations. Understanding and managing your feelings can help you to take back control in your life, address the issues at the root of your feelings, and you can bring about constuctive change for yourself. It seems to me that modern living can be extremely taxing and stressful, sometimes personally, sometimes at work, perhaps both, leading many people to feel depressed or anxious too, and this in turn, can strongly affect our mood or self esteem, preventing us from moving on with our lives and enjoying our positive experiences. Getting help can enable you to break free of these ways of thinking and feeling, rather than suffering with them or just hoping that they may go away on their own. If you are tired of just waiting for things to get better, and feel that you need to be active in bringing about positive changes in your life, then counselling could be for you. My experience tells me that problems dont just go away on their own, that the best way forward is to take positive steps and work at the issues that make our lives difficult.

I work in a way which integrates various approaches including Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis. I aim to use whichever approach best suits the person that I am working with.

Through working together, we can explore problems and difficulties, challenge your thinking, and alter behaviours if that's what you want in order to bring about positive changes that improve your life and wellbeing. Or it may be that you want to explore your feelings around certain issues, either past or present in order to move forward with your life feeling healthier.

"I had a lot of reservations about seeing a counsellor, all of which Jude blew out of the water from the first session! I found her compassionate, rigorous, professional, generous and kind. Over the months I saw her, Jude helped me understand and see myself in a different way, and gave me practical tools and exercises which have helped me make real, positive changes in my life." Sarah.

I understand that undertaking counselling can be initially daunting, and am therefore happy to chat and answer any questions or concerns you may have, before you book an appointment.

I am able to work from two locations, one in Heaton Moor during daytime hours, and one in Altrincham, which is evening hours only.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
