About me

My approach is authentic, empathic and non-judgemental. Together we can develop a shared understanding of your experiences so that you can make sense of your feelings and the challenges in your life.

I am an accredited psychotherapist / integrative arts psychotherapist experienced in working with a wide range of presenting issues, such as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, family and relationship problems.  I have worked in a range of settings within the public, private and voluntary sectors and in research.

I believe that each person’s lived experience is unique and my integrative training enables me to draw on a range of theories and techniques, according to your individual needs and what you bring to therapy. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be very successful in helping with challenging memories of disturbing events.

As it can be difficult to talk about our experiences and the challenges we face in life, if you choose to we are also able to use the arts for exploration - this does not require any artistic skill. Working with the arts, dreams and metaphor can provide deeper insight, especially when it is hard to find the words for challenging feelings and material.

Whether or not you have had therapy before, meeting a new therapist can feel daunting and it is important that the therapist you choose feels right for you. The first meeting is a chance for us to discuss your hopes for therapy, space to ask questions and decide whether you will feel comfortable working with me.

I am committed to working inclusively and actively supporting underrepresented voices.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered and accredited member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I have a Masters Degree with distinction in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy.

I have undertaken specific training in working with trauma and can offer various approaches: EMDR, the CATT trauma protocol and trauma-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also have qualifications in assessment, accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

I am registered with the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT), British Psychological Society (BPS), Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE), the EMDR Association, the UK Psychological trauma Society (UKPTS) and the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS).

I have worked with adults and adolescents in a range of settings, including two large NHS trusts in London, in Further and Higher Education, as well as in NHS research.

I have a longstanding commitment to research, with a particular interest in underrepresented voices and have presented, taught and delivered workshops nationally and internationally.  I am currently completing doctoral research.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
