Joy Cherkaoui Human Givens Psychotherapist
Are you looking for practical help to quickly feel more positive and in control of your life? Do you want to overcome emotional difficulties and get your life working again? Then get in touch to see how the Human Givens therapy I offer can help.
As a Human Givens psychotherapist I offer fast and effective help for a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma (including PTSD), phobias, addictions, obsessive compulsive disorder, anger management, low self confidence, work related stress, and relationship difficulties.
My aim is to help you feel better quickly so you can get on with your life as soon as possible. On average this takes 4 – 6 sessions, though sometimes only 1 or 2 are needed and occasionally longer term support is beneficial. Sessions are between 60 and 90 minutes long, and are arranged as we go along at times and intervals to best meet your needs.
Psychotherapy using the Human Givens approach combines a whole range of proven therapeutic techniques with the most up-to-date psychological knowledge to relieve emotional distress and help you get on with living your life as quickly as possible. It is effective because it draws on findings from psychology and neurobiology about how people really function and international research studies showing which counselling techniques work the best.
During a session I will listen very carefully to your story to make sure I understand what has happened and/or is going on for you now. I’ll teach you to relax so you can think more clearly, find solutions and develop skills and strategies now for difficulties which may be recent or have their roots some time ago in your past. We will explore the changes you would like to make, and help you make use of your own resources to make these changes in as straightforward a way as possible. Human Givens therapy is designed to help you change unhelpful patterns of behaviour with the minimum of fuss. Most people find they go away feeling more relaxed and positive even after the first session. The confidential sessions are held in a lovely calm space in Carmont House at the Crichton in Dumfries.
I have been working using the Human Givens approach for six years now and am still impressed at how effective it is and how privileged I am to be able to do this work. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing people regain their sense of control and be able to step fully into their lives.
If you want to know a bit more about the Human Givens approach have a look at the Human Givens Institute website www.hgi.org.uk.
In addition to psychotherapy, I also offer coaching sessions. So if, for example, you are feeling stuck and need a little help to work out how best to move forward in your life, or you’d like to work on being more relaxed in exams or interview situations I would be happy to help.
