About me

Welcome and thank you for visiting our Mantality Counselling profile..

Mantality is a men's mental health organisation and community that has helped men from all over the country discover and redefine their identity, self awareness and mental wellness over the past 5 years. Since the beginning of 2021, Mantality Counselling has been part of this success.

The road back to yourself begins and ends with you.

It begins with choices that have always been yours but have felt beyond your control. For some, it begins by choosing to reach out for help and begin the walk back to who you really are.

What is Therapy/Counselling?

Some call it therapy, others prefer counselling but whatever you choose to call our time together, our sessions will be an opportunity for us to work to uncover the barriers and challenges that are preventing you from reaching a state of mind that is more content, resilient and mindful of the journey you’ve been on. Even in your toughest moments, you’ve been doing the best work that you could.

Shame and blame play a huge part in leading us to believe that we are not worthy of a life that is wholehearted and happy. Whatever our lived experiences, shame can mute our ability to reach out; by working together, we’ll be challenging that shame from the very start.

Clients can often arrive feeling depressed, anxious, and certain of the bleakness of their life. By working together we’ll question those certainties and invite choice and possibility back into your way of thinking. As George Bernard Shaw said: “Those who can’t change their minds cannot change anything”.

My Approach

As a therapist, I don't seek to prioritise diagnoses, I work with and prioritise the person. Whatever your story, we can aim to build a working relationship that is mindful of what you've endured without labelling or judgement.

Want To Find Out More?

Lastly, everyone has questions. Rather than a huge list of FAQs that might not give you what you’re looking for, during the our initial phone conversation and throughout your sessions together you will be encouraged to ask whatever you need to know. Questions are great in therapy and a really healthy way to ensure you are maintaining your understanding and ‘stake’ in the process. You are the focus of the work and your peace of mind matters.

All initial enquiries, bookings, and cancellations are taken via emailing here or through +44 7845 409902 only.

Your personal details, your reasons for attending therapy, and your identity are confidential and you should use the email and mobile channels above rather than going through Mantality’s main contact details.

I look forward to working with you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Your therapist Jonathan Bell is a fully qualified Counselling Psychotherapist (PG Cert) with a Master’s Degree (pending April 2021) in Psychotherapeutic Practice.

Jonathan is currently completing his MA thesis into the issue of vulnerability in professional rugby league. He specialises in integrated practice, meaning that he works across a number of modalities (methods) depending on what works for the client. Jonathan’s primary modalities are humanistic approaches – Gestalt, Person Centred and Emotion-Focussed – but from time to time, aspects from other ways of working (such as Neuroscientific, CBT and Existential methods) may be brought in.

Over the last few years, Jonathan's professional development has included further training in Grief & Bereavement, Trauma, Neuroscience and Polyvagal Theory, Shame and Vulnerability and online and telephone counselling.

Although this may sound wordy, complex and perhaps daunting, Jonathan will explain what these things mean during your initial conversation. Essentially, they’re just ways in which they help you to explain and discover what you are feeling and grow your understanding and acceptance of your experiences. In its simplest form, therapy, or counselling if you prefer that word, is a structured conversation – the modalities help to ensure you get something from these encounters.
