About me

Do you need someone to listen to you?

If you're going through an emotional struggle, let me help you make sense of things that are troubling you through confidential and impartial counselling.

My goal is to provide you with an opportunity to share your problems with someone skilled at listening - someone who will not judge you.

Counselling can help you deal with any situation that is causing you stress or emotional difficulty. I am here to:

• Listen to your story, without bias or judgment
• Assist you to explore your thoughts and feelings
• Help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your circumstances.

John Terry - Psychodynamic Counsellor

I am a BACP Registered and Accredited counsellor with a life time of working in the caring professions, and 16+ years of experience in counselling.

I work with individual adults looking at problems like: depression, anxiety, low self esteem, mid-life crisis, major life changes, difficulties at work, bereavement, family conflict, relationship problems, sexual and emotional abuse.

My practice is set in the small, peaceful, hamlet of Halmore, just outside Berkeley, surrounded by fields and trees with plenty of parking. There is a wonderful view of oak trees from the practice window.

I cover Gloucester, Bristol, Dursley, Stroud, Thornbury and Cheltenham.

The sessions last for about 50 minutes, and usually done on a once weekly basis at the same time each week. Daytime and evening appointments are available.

Let yourself be heard

I believe that events in our past life can condition how we relate with ourselves and with others in our lives today. If we have unresolved experiences they can affect us profoundly. Sharing can be the road to resolution, development and growth.

In telling your individual story you can start to experience a sense of relief, a sense of being heard and feeling of being accepted for the person you really are.

Do you feel that counselling is the right choice for you?

You can contact me via email at any time of day or night and I will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

Phone me on 01453 511 088 between 9am and 9pm on weekdays, and if I am not available please leave a voicemail and I will call you as soon as I am free.

Weekday and evening appointments are available.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
