About me

I have been working as a psychotherapist and counsellor in private practice and as Head of Counselling at St.George's Medical School since 1997. I am not precious in the way I work and listen to the clients' needs and what they hope to gain from working with me. I take pride in being warm and empathic, yet also boundaried, observant and professional.

When we first meet we will talk about what sort of therapy will suit you best and how many sessions might be best for you.  I am a therapist who listens but I am not one who just sits in silence.

My initial training was in psychodymanic psychotherapy, but I have taken several courses since, including a diploma in CBT, sexual addiction counselling and in supervision. The area of addiction particularly interests me, be it to alcohol, pornography or gaming. I work with various anxiety disorders.

I have extensive experience of counselling adolescents and older students, having been a counsellor at Orleans Park School in Twickenham and counsellor to Kings College School, Wimbledon.

I also work with couples.

CLIENT REVIEW: "John showed patience, understanding and empathy during his meetings with me. I felt comfortable talking to him and he never made me feel awkward. John is a wonderful listener and gives constructive feedback which I used to help me make progress and move forwards. John didn't give unrealistic ideas or suggest anything that he knew wouldn't be acceptable to me. He was always mindful of my needs, wishes and personality and worked with me to create and move towards achievable results, whilst also being a voice of reason. Talking to John helped me gain clarity of thought and I felt able to accomplish more than I expected and I perhaps would"  Zeba
