My main mode is a 'Relational' perspective, helping people see how they are in the world.
Differences between Counselling & Psychotherapy.
Counselling is usually a short term process, supporting people using their existing personal resources to find the way through a troublesome time. Psychotherapy is a longer process that enables the person to develop new strengths & personality traits. It is to help clients change their lives in the way they want to change them.
The two processes are closely related and sometimes the person can move from one to the other. A joint assessment will give us some indication of how we will proceed.
Professional details.
After working in commerce I trained as a Youth & Community Worker, this lead me to my interest and training in Counselling. Some years later I commenced training at The Metanoia Institute, qualifying as a psychotherapist in 1994, later I completed the examinations as a Trainer & Supervisor of Transactional Analysis. I have been teaching & training others in listening and counselling skills since 1991.
Why a talking therapy?
It has been established that talking out load to another helps the brain process information is a different way, or, helps you find a new way of thinking. We all face difficulties in our lives at times, Counselling & Psychotherapy help look at the issues in a different light to create greater control over your life. The aim is find ways for you to take decisions for yourself, it is not about giving advice or telling you what to do.
I offer Supervision for trainee & qualified practitioners.
I am a member of UKCP, United Kingdom Association of Transactional Analysis.
