John Crowley Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist - MProf, MA, MACP, MTSP
I am a Tavistock & Portman Clinic trained Psychoanalytic Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist working in private practice in South East London offering assessments, therapy and professional supervision & consultations.
See website for more information: www.child-psychotherapist.com
I hold a special interest in working with young people and families where care proceedings are in the background. I have extensive experience providing post-adoption therapy for children and parents.
I work with children, adolescents, young adults and their parents. I also work in educational settings, with students and staff both individually and in groups; I offer supervision and consultation to school staff and social workers.
I see children and young people for fixed term periods of work or on an ongoing basis, subject to the situation and need. The reasons for seeking help may be complex or not at all clear, my training means I work with a range of issues and especially with children when causes and difficulties are unknown and only worrying behaviour or emotions can be seen.
My way of working means I start with a first stage assessment where parents discuss the identified difficulties and desired outcomes. The next stage will include seeing the child/young person for a period of assessment after which a recommendation for treatment is made.
I also work with parents, where seeing the child or young person isn't possible or appropriate. Sometimes a one-off consultation is enough but often ongoing in either short-term (4-8 weeks), mid-term (12-16 weeks) support is called for. This work aims at deepening understanding of your child's moods and behaviour and developing new skills and techniques to parent 'therapeutically'.
My consulting rooms are in Sydenham close to National Rail and London Transport rail links to Surrey/Kent locations and London Bridge, Highbury Overground & Victoria stations.

Post-adoption therapy for adopted children/ parents is eligible for funding from the ASF; accessing the scheme is via the Local Authority where your child was adopted or now lives if more than 3 years have passed since adoption.
