About me

What can you expect from me?

Clients have said that they find my approach to be friendly, calm and non-judgemental. I treat each person as an individual and aim to create a trusted space where we can explore your areas of concern together.  Starting therapy can be a big step and making a change can be challenging, especially if this is new to you, so I take care to match the pace of the sessions with your needs.  My approach combines curiosity with compassion and I will check in at regular intervals to ensure that we working in the best way to support you.

How counselling can help:

Experience has shown me that the outcome of counselling will be different for each person. Clients have told me that talking to someone different from their friends/family enabled perspectives and insights to emerge, and these can be the key to making new choices and changes. Rather than leading you in any particular direction, I can help you in exploring what is possible, where the barriers lie and what can help to overcome them.

What to expect in the first session:

During the first session I will need to collect some of your details and will also provide you with information about me and my service; for example, how I store your personal details, what my cancellation policy is and answer any questions that you may have. The first few sessions are also a great opportunity to begin to get to know each other, to discuss your hopes or fears regarding the counselling and whether there are particular areas you would like us to focus on in upcoming sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have trained in Humanistic Integrative Counselling and combine a person-centred approach with the knowledge of a variety of techniques and tools.  Depending on client preference I can introduce work sheets, simple grounding techniques, metaphors and visualisations.  I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, which include the impact of long term health conditions, terminal illness, bereavement, grief & anticipatory grief, Carer & Parent Carer related issues, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. I undertake regular training and supervision to ensure that I am working in accordance with latest information and good practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
