Joe Dore MBACP
I am a fully trained and experienced counsellor who is a registered member of the BACP. I am a warm and genuine person who has spent many years training and studying mental health conditions. I aim to provide a safe place for people who want to explore how they are feeling and who want to make positive changes in their lives. I will listen and support you in whatever goals you identify for our work together, whether that is reducing anxieties/stresses, managing problem behaviour or breaking old patterns of thinking/behaving.
I will give you the time and space to explore your current/past difficulties or concerns and I will use my counselling skills and theory to guide you to chose the relevant learning or coping strategies that will be relevant to your own situation. My sessions will be lead by you the client as I believe that people have within themselves the resources and the ability to change their lives for the better. My role is to listen, support, signpost to certain counselling theories and also challenge some thoughts/feelings that may be stopping clients from achieving their goals.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am qualified in counselling Adults and Young people. I have experience working one to one with students in universities, adults in face to face counselling for various companies and I also currently work as a telephone counsellor for an Employee Assistance Program which helps employees of different companies deal with work related stress, depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts/ideation.
I am qualified as a Psychodynamic Counsellor which often involves dealing with the past/childhood of the client and linking this to current difficulties but I have experience using integrative methods so I will deal with the here and now of the client if that is what they need and also I use goal setting and planning for the future so I can help clients if their concerns or difficulties are long term and a combination of things or if it is a here and now specific issue that needs help with in the present and immediate future.
I believe in being respectful, genuine and non judgemental and will do my best to ensure that you the client feels secure and safe enough to disclose any information that you feel needs to be expressed/offloaded or processed.
