About me

A free first session, with no obligation on you to continue, Individuals & Couples. An experienced, BACP registered, fully qualified counsellor, I provide acceptance, empathy, warmth and understanding to individuals and couples.

I offer a place where you will not be judged.

My strengths are: warmth, patience, kindness and a very good sense of humour - when appropriate.

I have extensive experience of working with issues around anxiety, anger, bereavement, creativity, depression, self-esteem, loss, betrayal, learning difficulties, especially Autism and ADHD, couples and relationships, separation, careers, young people, personal development and work related stress.

I believe that any of us can find ourselves in difficult situations where, for many reasons, life can become a struggle, or hard to bear alone. I provide humanistic counselling therapy from a person-centred theoretical basis. Person-centred counselling works from the belief system that we have, at our core, the need or drive to develop, change and improve as best we can. I firmly believe that given the right circumstances a person can fulfil any number of their possibilities in life. Counselling offers a safe environment for you to change and grow but also to come to terms with and find acceptance of parts of yourself or your life that you may not like. I would very much like to be able to help you in this.

My consulting room is in central Hove.

I'm happy to do meet online and can also offer 'walk and talk' outdoor sessions, along Hove seafront, or other venues by appointment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been counselling people since 2009.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling from Brighton University and am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to the BACP ethical codes and standards of practice. I also have an Advanced Post Diploma Certificate in working with couples in a Person-Centred way.

I have vast experience of working with neurodiverse individuals and couples, especially those with High Functioning Autism and ADHD.

As well as private practice, I work as a Senior Psychological Therapist in the NHS specialising in trauma, identity and sleep. I have also previously counselled in a voluntary role in the NHS for 3 years and for 2 years in a youth charity.  I have been contracted to work as a counsellor for a number of care homes and have been an affiliate counsellor for Employee Assistance Programmes and for Private Health Insurance.

The varied life-experiences and problems such clients have brought to our sessions together has granted me invaluable understanding upon which to base my general practice.

I also have extensive experience of working with couples.

I have experience of working with clients long-term as well as in short-term, more solution-focussed, therapy. My work is also informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT and mindfulness ideas.

I am also a trained mediation practitioner including Divorce and Family Mediation. Before becoming a counsellor I worked in the public sector including senior management roles.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
