About me

Whether you have heard the call in yourself or someone you know has recommended it, you have found yourself here and looking at my page. I want to welcome you and assure you that from this moment, you are not alone. We can walk together through whatever feelings have brought you to therapy and look at how we might ease the sting of what may currently feel confusing, distressing or overwhelming.

Crossing a threshold, a time of transition, trauma, change or great challenge... everybody goes through difficulties in life and I believe therapy can help you feel more supported in those times. For me, therapy is about working together in a non-judgemental, grounded and open way to create an environment in which you feel safe enough to explore what it is that is getting in the way of you leading a contented and fulfilled life. My training along with my own personal and professional experience, have taught me just how valuable this journey can be and I hope to provide that same opportunity for you based on your unique personality and experiences.

I am committed to nurturing change and while the work may not always be easy, I believe it will ultimately be helpful and even life changing. I endeavour to be as real and open as I can, whilst also bringing the knowledge and skills from my training, to provide insight and alternative ways of approaching the issues you bring.

Sometimes words don't seem to be quite right so at times like these, we can work creatively to explore something you are struggling with. This could include making art, working with figures, or images from around the room, telling a story, moving outside, singing, writing, ritual or anything else that feels like it could help. Please note, this would be led by you and I would never make someone work in a way that would not feel comfortable for them.

I also run weekly therapy groups, which offer a different experience. If you are interested in group therapy, please contact me and we can discuss further.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Training.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Therapeutic Counselling from the University of Brighton, for which I gained a distinction. The training was thorough and in depth and covered many Humanistic approaches, such as Person-Centered Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy and Existential Therapy.

Working with disordered eating

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I believe that there is real power in stories and myth and can use this in our sessions. I also feel that nature and natural rhythms and cycles can offer up a lot of insight and support; providing a backdrop and space in which to explore themes we are working on in therapy so I use this to inform my work as well. It can bring a different feeling to work outside which is something that we can do if this feels right.

I am a group facilitator and am about to start a women's group for anyone who identifies as female. Please contact me experience more information.

As I am also a trained birth and post-natal doula, I am interested in new parents and this time of great transition and change. I can work with you through this significant adjustment in your life, the euphoric highs and the challenging times when things can feel a bit overwhelming.

Additional information

Sessions and fees.

It is vital to the therapeutic process that you feel comfortable with whichever therapist you choose. It is for this reason that I offer a free 30 minute chat either over the phone or face-to-face, in which we can discuss what you want and we can see how it feels to talk together.

After this should you choose to start therapy with me, my fees are £70 per session. Sessions are generally 60 minutes long and usually take place at the same time every week. Counselling can be long term and open ended or focused for a set amount of time. All this and more can be discussed when we meet.

I am also able to provide a limited number of lower cost spaces for those on low income or student counsellors. Please contact me for more information on availability.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I have quite a steep driveway which some might find difficult to navigate. There is one step into my office at home, but a ramp can placed on this to enable wheelchair access.
