About me

Online therapy sessions for couples and individuals using Zoom can be arranged with flexible appointment times.

I provide relationship counselling in the Newbury and Marlborough areas for clients who are; married, single, co-habiting or separated, heterosexual, gay, lesbian and from different ethnic backgrounds. Providing a safe and confidential space within which you can be heard and supported. Relationships can be complex and there are often many factors which have an affect, such as, finances, psychosexual issues, career, parenting, trust, affairs, resentment, family tensions, depression, to name a few.

As a psychodynamic relationship therapist (trained at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships), I work with clients to facilitate an understanding of their relationship difficulties, making links with their family, parental and past experiences and their current relationship issues.

Our ways of relating to others are formed in early childhood and during our developmental stages, with our parents, care-givers, siblings, peers and the family unit. These formative years are the basis of our uniqueness and influence how we conduct our relationships as well as our choice of partner. We develop strategies over the years to help us to cope with the complexities of life, in particular how we manage our feelings about ourselves as individuals and in relation to others.

Relationship Counselling helps individuals and couples to think about the often complex issues which are affecting them, some of which are;

  • anger
  • resentment
  • sexual difficulties
  • separation and divorce
  • trust issues
  • family tensions
  • financial matters
  • affairs
  • conflicting views and values
  • being parents
  • managing children in the relationship

Making a decision to talk through these difficult emotions can feel like a daunting prospect at first. However, finding some space to talk and explore your feelings, then quite often relief and insight can be found. These days our lives can be socially complex and we try our best to interweave our relationships with the demands of everyday life.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
