About me

I am a qualified and accredited CBT therapist, a fully qualified EMDR therapist and also have a background in mental health nursing.  I have over 15 years experience of working with people with mental health difficulties in a variety of settings, however my passion has always been working with those struggling with depression and anxiety. I have a special interest in compassion-focused therapy and this strongly influences the therapy I deliver.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is evidence-based to be as effective as medication in the treatment of depression but more effective at preventing recurrence. Research has also shown it to be an effective treatment for all kinds of anxiety-related difficulties and is recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Eye movement desensitisation & reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
