About me

Are you struggling with low mood or anxiety due to the pandemic? Is the lockdown having an effect on your mental health?

My fees are £45-55 per 50 minutes session or £25 per 30 session.

I am a fully qualified and experienced integrative counsellor, CBT practitioner & EMDR therapist. I have an MA in counselling from the University of Manchester as well as CBT and EMDR qualifications.

As well as counselling for issues such as bereavement, social anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, relationships, stress and abuse, I have special expertise in trauma/anxiety work with clients who have experienced recent or historical trauma.  I also offer services to employers such as counselling for staff and critical incident debriefing either one to one or in groups. I work part-time as a counsellor for a charity.

I am an Accredited Member of the BACP and work to the BACP Professional Code of Ethics.  I am also a member of the BACP Register.  I work with my clients to find the best way for them to move forward from whatever bought them to me using a range of skills discussed in depth with the client.

I am also a member of the EMDR Association UK & Ireland. Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing  (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed for working with distressing or traumatic memories.  The theory is to reprocess any blocked memories from past events and is very effective with anxiety disorders and PTSD.

If you feel unsure about engaging in counselling or EMDR I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the process.

I am based in Astley, Tyldesley.

I usually offer face to face, online (via Zoom) or telephone counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I gained a Masters Degree in Counselling Studies from the University of Manchester in 2009 after completing the Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling at the same establishment in 2008. I have since completed a Diploma in CBT. As well as Counselling Children & Adolescents Diploma Level 4. I completed my EMDR training in Manchester and am a member of the EMDR Association.

I have worked within a number of charities as a counsellor as well as within the local NHS. I have been in my current role as counsellor at a Cheshire/Merseyside charity since 2009 part-time and work with survivors of sexual violence/abuse.

I am a self employed counsellor during the rest of the week. I engage in both short term and long term counselling in a comfortable and safe environment.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
