About me

Welcome to my profile, my name is Jo Henshall, i am an Accredited full member of the BACP. I provide Humanistic Integrative Counselling / psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Supervision.

Are you struggling to cope or holding on to a painful memory or experience? Do you need to solve a problem or talk things through with a minimum amount of time commitment? Is it important you achieve immediate relief from symptoms of discomfort?

I offer a safe environment for reflection, healing and support. Specialising in Third Wave CBT and Humanistic Therapies, helping you gain insight, clarity and direction. Manage anxiety or depression, reduce uncomfortable symptoms & learn to cope when life is unpredictable.

Perhaps your problems are affecting your relationships or work life or you are struggling to cope with depression or an anxiety problem; feeling distressed, confused or angry? These feelings can lead to an individual to feel stuck, blocked, unfulfilled and desperate. I offer understanding alongside evidence based tools and techniques you can use to help you overcome your difficulties.

Jo has provided general counselling, CBT and psycho-therapeutic support across three charity and government funded counselling organisations, prior to the founding of The Talbot Services in February 2018.

Jo has had extensive training within the spectrum of trauma, and has successfully enabled adult survivors of childhood abuse, sexual violence and addictions to make beneficial changes to their lives.

As an affiliated member of Anxiety Uk Jo has had additional training with anxiety / depression and mental health disorders and works to NICE guidelines delivering CBT. "I draw from Third Wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Humanistic/Person Centred, Psychodynamic concepts, Trauma Informed Therapy and Existential approaches to adapt the theory to provide individually tailored and bespoke treatment plans".

Her work with addictions took place within a drug and alcohol treatment centre, where she also provided counselling support for people caring for someone with a drug and/or alcohol problem.

"I am a warm, empathic, approachable person, having had a solid and varied back ground of life experience, which gives me a baseline from which to draw upon within my therapeutic work."

Your first step

The first introductory session is a chance for you to assess if I am the right person for you. It also gives an opportunity for me to understand what you are looking for and to see if I feel what I can offer will suit you, before we make an agreement to work together.

Reviews will be offered at regular intervals to ensure your expectations and goals are being met or worked towards and for any adjustments to be made with regard to pre negotiated plans or ways of improving therapeutic progress.

Talking to a stranger about deeply sensitive, personal experiences and feelings may seem daunting, particularly when you may be feeling vulnerable. Please talk to me about any concerns you may have about starting therapy.

If you would like more information of how i practice or what counselling might involve for you, please browse my website or contact me for further information.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
