Joanne Dalton, Counsellor & Coach: Couples, Individuals, Sleep Assessments
About me
I am an experienced and caring psychotherapeutic counsellor and coach working with couples and individuals. I have a particular interest and training in relationship issues at home and in the workplace, for example:
poor communication, repeated arguments and conflict, you and your partner not meeting one another's needs, drifting apart from your partner, feeling alone in a relationship, affairs, broken trust.
I know that it is not always easy to seek help, especially in difficult and painful circumstances; so I provide a confidential, safe, non-judgemental and trusting space for you to explore and express your thoughts and feelings.
Some of the issues I work with include:
anger; anxiety; assertiveness; career development; bereavement; depression; grief & loss; health & wellbeing; insomnia & sleep difficulties; intimacy; low self-esteem and confidence; loss of meaning, direction or purpose; relationships with partners, family, friends and colleagues; stress at home & work; workplace problems.
As sleep difficulties and insomnia often accompany other issues, I have advanced level training in the assessment and establishment of treatment strategies for people with such problems.
I am experienced in working on both a short and long term basis and with adults of different ages and from different backgrounds and cultures. My aim is to help you to explore your history, experiences, difficult situations or relationships, so that you start to have a deeper understanding of your self and begin to make choices and changes in order to move forward and live life more fully.
I have studied and trained in a variety of approaches and will draw on all of these to tailor the counselling to your needs. We will review our work together on a regular basis to ensure I am working in a way that is beneficial for you and at a pace to suit you.
As well as my private practice, I have also worked on a volunteer basis in two organisations; one in an NHS Staff Support and Counselling Service, the other at Nottingham Counselling Service.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and conform to its Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
I am a Trainee Member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and conform to its Code of Ethics and Practice for General and Accredited Members.
I work online or in-person at Room to...; therapy rooms based in Burton-on-Trent.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
