Joanne Crystal (Msc. MBACP) Online Child, Teenager & Adult Counsellor
About me
Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. I work with children, teenagers and adults for long and short term work (usually meeting once a week for an hour). I am trained in CBT, Person Centred, Psycho-dynamic, Jungian and Existential methods.
I will work carefully to discover and get alongside you. I will use my training sensitively to understand you and help you:
1) overcome struggles you are facing,
2) move beyond mental distress, depression and anxiety,
3) make sense of your feelings and experiences,
4) gain control over your life,
5) build strategies going forward.
I have experience working with a wide range of presenting issues with clients. Depression and anxiety are the most common mental health issues in the U.K. Please see the list below of presenting issues I have previously worked with. (Please note that this is not an exhaustive list).
With younger people often self esteem/self identity and family dynamics can underlie many other presenting issues (stress, depression, eating disorders, risky behaviour etc).
I can empower you to begin moving forward with more awareness, less distress ... and hope.
Online therapy is proven to work and can be very convenient for busy people. I work on video conferencing platforms (Zoom and Whatsapp) or via telephone.
I will try to accommodate any planning needs of the client. If you would be happier writing your feelings down than talking, I can also offer email therapy.
Please email or call me to book a session, or simply to discuss things further. I will reply as soon as possible, and call you back if I am unable to take your call.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and uphold their ethical code. This means that I maintain strict confidentiality with my clients.
I hold a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology (MSc.) which I gained after completing a Psychology Postgraduate Diploma (Pg.Dip) at the University of Nottingham.
I have worked extensively as a counsellor in schools and since then have always had a passion for working with young people and children in a therapeutic capacity. I have also worked privately, and within the charity sector, with adults of all age ranges and with a range of presenting issues. I have subsequently updated my training at the New School of Counselling and Psychotherapy; and by receiving frequent clinical supervision with another specialist.
Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
