About me

About Me

I am a Person Centred trained counsellor and supervisor. This style of therapy allows a client to steer the direction of therapy and in the process, clarify and define their own goals.

If appropriate for example with trauma work,  I will integrate different therapy techniques into the sessions., valuing the use of a blend of therapeutic techniques to suit client individuality.

I aim to work as part of a therapeutic relationship underpinned by respect and integrity. This is led by my understanding that the quality of the client - counsellor relationship is key to change.

About the counselling sessions

I offer time limited or open ended sessions, your choice. Sessions usually last 50 minutes. The sessions can offer a confidential and of course non-judgemental 'space' to explore your issues.

In the first session some time will be spent 'outlining' and mutually agreeing / understanding issues such as confidentiality in the counselling relationship. This makes for a dependable and 'safe' environment. Sessions are reviewed regularly to make sure they are always appropriately tailored to your own goals.

I offer face to face sessions on a Thursday evening and zoom sessions Monday and Tuesday evenings. There is free parking on site and also a good bus and tram service to the area. More details are shown under the section entitled 'further information', below.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MA Counselling - University of Manchester
  • Diploma in Person Centred counselling
  • Certificate in Creative Supervision
  • Guided Imagery and Visualisation for therapeutic change
  • The Rewind Technique

My background lies predominantly in working with issues surrounding loss, palliative care and bereavement;  I have over 15 years experience in a voluntary and NHS capacity.

I work closely with issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, body image, disability and self-esteem.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
