About me

Hi, my name is Joanna, and thanks for visiting my page.

If you scroll down, you will see information about me and the services I offer, however, I encourage you to have a look at my questions, to see if you think I may be the right fit for you.

  • Are you feeling overwhelmed, feeling you can’t let go of past experiences?
  • Do you want to understand more about yourself, how you tick and improve your reactions to adverse situations?
  • Have you experienced traumatic situations in your life, where memories or feelings keep rearing their head when you least expect it?
  • Are you, or have you been involved with a narcissistic person (or persons) and are struggling with dealing with that relationship?
  • Is your overthinking becoming an issue, which can lead to you over-catastrophising or your mind whirling?
  • Do you lack in self-esteem, self-confidence or just generally feel you are ‘not good enough’?
  • Do you find you are doubting yourself and perhaps not feeling worthy?
  • Do you feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed?
  • Do you get lost in your emotions and struggle to understand them?
  • Do you enter into negative thought processes, which hold you back from obtaining want you want to fulfil in life?
  • Do you notice patterns in your behaviours that you find to be unhelpful?
  • Do you want to move forward in your life, to feel more empowered and trusting of yourself and your decisions?
  • Are you feeling ‘out of sorts’, perhaps anxious and don’t know why?
Is regulating your emotions an issue, which can lead to feeling overwhelmed with life?
  • Has your mood dipped, perhaps you are experiencing mood swings, or feeling low?
  • Do you self-sabotage relationships and/or situations?
  • Are things getting out of hand ending in a panic attack or experiencing a spike in anxiety?

Counselling is a talking therapy, and there are many different types offered, helping people to process and deal with any issues they may be facing, whether long-standing or more recent.

Attending counselling can help you make positive changes to your life, and provides an environment where you will be fully listened to, never judged, and treated with upmost respect at all times. It is time for YOU.

I aim to help you strengthen and reconnect with yourself, by providing you with gentle support, in a confidential, kind, empathic and mindful space.

I have extensive experience and interests in many areas, and these include; Fibromyalgia and chronic illness; trauma (including childhood); narcissism; abuse; anxiety; depression; low self-esteem; grief and loss; stress; family estrangement; and relationship problems.

I offer ‘integrative counselling’, which means I use a mixture of therapies, designed to provide a unique service tailored to you as an individual. These are; Person-Centred; Transaction Analysis (TA); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); and Inner Child Therapy.

I like to work in an educative way, in other words, open a two-way discussion, to help you relate your thoughts, behaviours and actions with counselling theory. I believe that ‘knowledge is power’, and by tapping into your subconscious or hidden self, you can then progress forward in life after getting to know yourself on a deeper level.

I offer face to face and video sessions, or a mixture of both, either weekly or fortnightly.

Taking the first step to speak to a counsellor can be very daunting, as can wondering whether I am the right person for you. Therefore, I offer a free 20-minute phone call upfront, to discover whether we think we are a good fit, before making any commitment to attend paid sessions with me.

If you require any further information or you have any questions to ask, feel free to get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as an Integrative Counsellor at Stockport College and I hold a level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, therefore I am able to draw on different types of therapeutic models to help my clients when dealing with their issues. I am currently studying a Jungian based Diploma in Inner Child Therapy also, which not only enhances and compliments my college training, but has proved very successful with my current clients.

I have experience with, and welcome clients from all walks of life, including the LGBTQIA+ community.

Having a widespread knowledge of different theories enables me to use various approaches and adapt my practice accordingly in line with my client’s unique and particular needs, rather than utilising only one approach.

My style of counselling is two-way communication, educative, and if required I am happy to provide additional learning outside of sessions, but only if this is something you wish to do. I work on the basis that my client leads the session, and I facilitate the progress of self-awareness/learning about yourself.

I have worked extensively in the charity sector, providing therapy to clients from all walks of life. I have over 1500 hours of client experience, where I have helped clients with issues ranging from depression; anxiety; narcissism; anger; loss and bereavement; addiction; abuse; and ADHD.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, I have full insurance in place, and an up-to-date enhanced DBS.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm wishes, Joanna

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
