About me

Life can be tricky, there are times when we can feel vulnerable, when we can feel overwhelmed and when we can feel burdened by life's experiences both past and present. At such times it can help to talk through your problems. I am a BACP accredited, fully qualified counsellor working in the heart of Salisbury offering a rounded and individually tailored style of therapy providing you with a space in which to share your story.

For counselling to be effective it needs to be realistic, yet compassionate, empathic and non judgmental. I undertake to offer you nurturing and respectful support and, whilst it is a journey we take together, I believe in empowering you so that you can achieve the changes you desire or find the peace of mind you crave from a place of inner strength. This provides you with tools and coping strategies that will help in the future.

Additionally, I have specialised training (graduating from the US based Institute for the Psychology of Eating) to provide coaching around food related issues such as yo-yo dieting, over-eating, under-eating, binge eating and other areas where our relationship with food can prove problematic.

Generally, the first session is a two way assessment. It gives you the opportunity to see whether you feel comfortable with me and to begin to explore some of the issues which have brought you to counselling. Following this initial meeting we decide how to proceed together.

I offer short term, long term or one-off counselling. I am happy to provide telephone or FaceTime sessions or email Counselling.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
