About me
I’m Jo, an experienced, accredited relational therapist. I work integratively, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to suit your unique needs. In addition, I am a trauma informed practitioner with specific training in this area.
I am committed in offering you a warm, safe, confidential and supportive space to help you in your journey towards healing and growth. I understand the importance of feeling that you “fit” with your counsellor and my aim is to make you feel safe and comfortable in the therapeutic relationship whilst I support you on your counselling journey.
I offer an initial free, no obligation 20 minute conversation. This gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about counselling and gives us both the opportunity to decide if we would like to work together.
Practice Description
I am a professionally qualified and experienced integrative psychotherapist. This means that I draw on different therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs and goals.
I am a warm and empathic person. You are your own expert. I will listen to you, ask questions and tune into how your experiences have impacted you. I believe that you are unique so your counselling will be tailored to your own individual needs. In your counselling, it may be helpful to explore your previous experiences and relationships in order to understand the impact of these on you in the present. We could work together to identify and understand any restrictive patterns of behaviour which can lead to positive change, freedom and empowerment. We will work at your pace to equip you with tools for you to feel stronger, to lead a more fulfilled life and cope with future challenges that may arise.
I studied at MA level at the University of Leeds and have extensive experience of working in private practice. I have also worked for a counselling charity as their Counselling Service Manager.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work in accordance with BACP's Ethical Framework. I am committed to my professional development and engage in regular training and CPD.
I can offer face-to-face sessions in the centre of Harrogate. I can also offer video sessions via Microsoft Teams, or telephone sessions.
Each therapy session will last 50 minutes. I offer both short term therapy for focused goals, and longer term therapy for deeper exploration.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
