About me

Hello, I’m Jo and welcome to my page.

The counselling and psychotherapy services I offer are personalised and of a high quality. By this I mean that I have undergone rigorous training, and I continue to educate myself and embark on my own journey of therapy and personal development, so that I can bring everything I’ve learnt and experienced to my work. Every client is different, and I am sensitive to respecting my clients coping mechanisms and meeting them in the way they like to relate to others and view the world. Empathy and non-judgement is central to my approach.

I am intelligent and articulate, and am able to explain theoretical concepts in simple language. I am also interested in different ways of working therapeutically, including bodywork, visualisations, meditation, spirituality and creative exercises. I am an avid meditator myself and yoga enthusiast as well as being a deep and philosophical thinker. I believe I offer a truly holistic way of working therapeutically.

My framework for understanding a client’s world involves their relationship with them self, their internal world and inner dialogue;  what can be understood in the relationship that’s unfolding between us, therapist and client; the context of their society at large; their personal relationships and their family story. This provides a comprehensive assessment process.

I am a passionate advocate for young people and their rights. I have a special interest in working with young adults, aged 18-30, who I feel are frequently marginalised and underrepresented in society. As an experienced nurse, I have also spent much of my career working with older people, which I loved. I welcome clients of all ages.

I am particularly interested in the themes of love and relationships, what that might mean for a client in the context of our modern day society, and how that is changing. I have undergone training from renowned couple's therapist Esther Perel, which has informed my work in this area.

What to expect working with me.

My approach is one of combining knowledge and science with matters of the heart and spirit. I am modern and forward thinking in my work. I offer my clients compassion and respect, whilst demonstrating authenticity and integrity.

My clients often come to me wanting a little bit more from their therapist, a bit more challenge, a bit more than reflecting back to them what they already know. Having completed 4 years of comprehensive training in psychotherapy, I am able to offer this to those clients, whilst still offering the gentle, non-directive approach that other clients benefit from. I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach, and I tailor the work to meet your needs.

Sometimes life can be a struggle.

Through counselling and psychotherapy, I can support you with your emotions and help you to be at peace with yourself and others. So whatever your needs please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you, you don't need to face this alone.

"Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life, it will improve the lives of all those around you." Robin Sharma

I work on the telephone or via zoom. This gives you flexibility to rearrange sessions, the comfort of your own home to help calm you for the session, more time in your day to take care of yourself and less stress in terms of driving and parking. Many clients feel less under a microscope when working in this way, so it can help those who feel worried about the process of counselling.

It is normal to worry that you won't know what to talk about in the sessions, or that you feel nervous before starting. My clients are often surprised at the way I am able to facilitate them gently into new insights or areas of growth and discovery. Please email or text to arrange your free introductory session.
