Jo Burch MSc, UKCP - Counselling And Psychotherapy
Hello and welcome, I'm Jo. You may have come here because you're struggling to cope with life's challenges. Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, lost or alone and you're finding it hard to deal with the difficult feelings. Many situations can bring us to a point where everything feels too much - for example, emotional and/or physical ill health, work stress, relationship difficulties, break-ups, bereavement, trauma and unresolved childhood issues.
I can help you to explore what you need to resolve your difficulties and gain balance in your life and in your relationships. I work from the philosophy that human beings are wired for social connection and that, to be emotionally and physically healthy, we must have fulfilling and satisfying relationships with the people around us. I would support you in understanding how your experiences in key relationships have shaped who you are today. There may be patterns of thinking and behaviour that looked after you in the past but perhaps aren't so helpful now in maintaining healthy relationships. I can help you to build the skills to establish and maintain good relationships and live a more fulfilling life.
I have a special interest in working holistically with the mind and body to help you cope with and, hopefully, overcome emotional and physical difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain and fatigue. I will support you to be more at ease with difficult feelings and build a greater resilience in your nervous system for handling stress.
I offer you the opportunity to create a safe space away from the pressures of daily life for us to explore what is troubling you and have a look at any changes you may need to make at a pace that suits you. I will sit alongside you with empathy and compassion, and without judgement, as you find a way out of your difficulties that works for you.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
