I am a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor with a diploma in humanistic therapeutic counselling and am a member of the professional register of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and an accredited member of the National Counselling Society, abiding by their code of ethical conduct.
I have a background in body work (Shiatsu – Japanese Acupressure) and Eastern philosophy and meditation and integrate my experience of holistic mind/body awareness into my therapeutic work.
The mind/body is an intelligent system that is always striving for balance and wellness. My work as a counsellor is to help when you feel stuck in particular emotional states or beliefs about yourself. Together we identify thought patterns and emotional reactions that no longer serve you well. We work together to let go of what is no longer needed and open up to new and healthier ways of being in the world.
My bodywork experience has shown me that the mind and body are intimately interconnected and that one is affected by the other.
For example, danger triggers the fight/flight response in the body. Anxiety states are caused by the same physical systems being triggered in response to thoughts and feelings instead of external danger. Understanding this can be helpful in working with anxiety and panic attacks and I have worked successfully with anxiety using inner body awareness, grounding and breathing techniques, as well as addressing the origins of the thoughts/ feelings involved through talking therapy.
The mind/body approach is particularly helpful in working with trauma because traumatic experiences and memories are held in the body, and can be eased/ released through guided awareness of the body I have experience of working with long term childhood trauma, bullying etc and unresolved traumatic experiences.
I am always led by you in the pace and direction of our work together, as I trust in the innate healing abilities of the mind/body. I will accompany and support you, offering my skills and experience, empowering you to access your own source of inner strength and wellbeing.
I provide a safe, confidential space where you will not be judged, where you can experience compassion and acceptance, qualities that are key to a peaceful mind.
My fee for counselling is £45 per hour.
Therapeutic counselling works best when meetings are regular at the beginning, usually weekly, and can be short term or longer term depending on your needs. The estimated number of sessions needed would be discussed at our first meeting.
Contact by phone or email, I will always respond within 24 hours.
Weekday appointments available via online video or phone.

National Counselling Society (NCS)
The National Counselling Society
This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.
In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
