Jo Barritt, PGDip Counselling & Psychotherapy, MBACP, BSc Psychology
Hi, I'm Jo and I am a fully qualified person centred psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I adhere to their ethical guidelines to ensure you receive the best practice.
I am a great believer that it is the relationship between the counsellor and the client that is important and I am happy to arrange an initial meeting at a reduced rate for you to see if I would be someone you would feel happy working with. I also believe in tailor-making the therapy to suit you, I am trained in different types of therapy including CBT, transactional analysis as well as person-centred and working with you I will use the tools that I have from each to best suit your needs.
Sometimes we all need someone to talk to, life can become overwhelming, confusing or distressing for all of us. At difficult times in our lives sometimes talking to friends or family just isn't enough and an impartial, objective ear can be just what is needed. I will allow you the time, space and confidentiality to talk through anything that is troubling you. As a person centred counsellor I will work at your pace, truly listen without judgement, allow you to find the solutions you are looking for and not assume that I know what is best for you. Working therapeutically in this way can bring about the changes that you want to enable you to lead a more fulfilling life.
"When we feel listened to, we feel visible, we feel valued, answers come later." - Jayne Phillips
Training, qualifications & experience
As well as working privately in Sale and Hale, I have also worked within a charitable setting in Altrincham for a number of years where I have experience of working with depression, anxiety, trauma, gender identity issues, family members of addicts, bereavement and loss, to name just a few. I also have specialist experience of working with children and young people within school and college settings, formerly as a teacher and in more recent years as a counsellor. As well as my private practice I work for a national charity, Place2be, that provides counselling to primary and secondary children in schools throughout the UK.
