About me

Hi, I'm Jo, I'm a qualified counsellor and have many years of experience. I currently work for the NHS as well as in private practice.  I understand that sometimes we all need someone to talk to, life can become overwhelming, confusing, or distressing for anyone, for many different reasons.  This is where counselling, and I, can be useful.  Counselling can be just the place to untangle your thoughts and make sense of what is going on for you, and how you might like it to change.

I recognise that everyone is different. We are all individuals, and I therefore believe that therapy should also be unique to you, and your experience. I am a humanistic integrative counsellor, which means I will use different tools and skills to tailor the therapy to fit you, and what works for you, rather than expect you to fit the therapy. I specialise in working with depression and loss, self compassion / critique, self worth, anxiety and emotional regulation. I also enjoy working with a trauma informed approach with the complexities of life that can arise from past or chronic trauma.

I feel passionate about working with people to enable them to lead a life that is fulfilling for them.

I offer sessions via video, or telephone counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

As well as working privately, I also work for the NHS. I have experience of working with depression, anxiety, trauma, gender identity issues, neurodiversity, family members of addicts, bereavement and loss, to name just a few.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
