About me
I’m Jo Allen, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Family Therapist. I provide individual, couples and family therapy along with supervision and training. I tailor my approach to each individual or setting.
I work with a diverse range of issues including anxiety, depression, bi-polar, relationship difficulties, fertility, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, psychosis, trauma, abuse, couples conflict and self-esteem.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a chartered clinical psychologist and a qualified systemic family therapist. I have worked in mental health services for 17 years. I have worked with a variety of mental health difficulties in different services. I have training in CBT, mindfulness and narrative approaches. My training as a systemic family therapist has supported me to work thinking about systems and relationships and use creative ways of working to understand and support change for people. I value compassionate ways of working to empower people to take charge of their own lives.
I have been in clinical practice since 2005 and currently combines working in the NHS in Adult Mental Health with private practice. I have a lead role within the BPS co-chairing the faculty of complex mental health providing training and guidance for practitioners in adult services. I am a supervisor and teacher of systemic practice, family work and other psychological approaches.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
