Jilly Gibson-Miller - Peak Psychotherapy
I am based in Hathersage and Matlock in the Derbyshire Peak District. I offer psychotherapy to women and men of all ages to help you begin the process of bringing about change in your life, shifting your perspective and reaching your potential. I provide short- or long-term counselling and psychotherapy and my approach integrates a range of effective therapeutic techniques, tailored to my client’s needs. Whether you are looking for help resolving one or more issues that are difficult for you right now in everyday life; you would like to explore ongoing issues in more depth; or you are simply stuck and don’t know how to move forward – I can help.
I can work with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, grief, trauma, harmful childhood experiences and attachment issues, stress, low self-esteem, interpersonal and relational issues, or coping with major life events and transitions. I also have expertise in helping bring about change in issues relating to aspects of physical health, which impact upon your emotional well-being: I can help you break bad habits, address addictive behaviours and manage chronic illnesses such as pain, diabetes or cancer.
My approach is effective in bringing about changes on many different levels and reflects the complexity of people’s lives, paying special attention to the intricate ways in which elements of our social, psychological and physical systems interact. My practice promotes self-compassion, self-care and self-acceptance. Altogether, your time in therapy will help you understand your difficulties and teach you practical strategies to overcome them, so that you can bring about changes in your life and improve your emotional and psychological well-being.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked as a Psychologist and University Lecturer for many years. I have a PhD in Psychology and have studied in great depth, the psychological processes involved in successful self-regulation and behaviour change. I registered as a Health Psychologist in 2007 and trained as an integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist in 2015, working in a range of settings including the NHS and charity settings. I use psychological evidence to inform the therapy I provide, and this is part of what makes my practice unique and effective.
