About me
Hello and thank you for looking at my page, my name is Jess.
I currently have online and some face to face availability in Birmingham.
A bit about me
I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) with over ten years experience working for the NHS in Primary and Secondary care mental health services. I specialise in treating common mental health disorders, which are usually referred to as anxiety disorders and depression. My experience varies from providing CBT with children and young people, and their caregivers. To providing CBT treatment with adults. I follow evidence based interventions in line with NICE guidance.
I am also trained in counselling techniques following Person Centred Therapy (Humanism), and third wave CBT techniques such as: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness.
I have additional training in Long Term Conditions (LTC) such as; chronic pain, fibromyalgia, diabetes, functional neurological disorder etc. This allows CBT to understand the impact of a LTC on a person's experience and apply techniques to support emotional wellbeing.
What you can expect in therapy?
As a therapist I aim to create a safe and non-judgemental space, where you can be yourself. You are the expert of you. My role is to facilitate exploration and understanding of your experiences, so that together we can work towards your therapy goals.
What is CBT?
CBT is an evidenced based therapy which considers the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours. CBT therapy will seek to examine this relationship through the lens of a cycle. For example; every time I am triggered, I think..., I feel... and I behave...
Following the exploration of this cycle tools and techniques can be applied to reduce anxiety disorders and depression.
What does CBT Treat?
CBT treats a number of mental health difficulties, primarily my experience is with treating; Social Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Specific Phobia, Panic Disorder, Health Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). And Depression, which also includes Low Self-Esteem (LSE). CBT can also be adapted to support with neurodivergence such as ADHD.
Additionally a trauma informed approach can be taken with CBT to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD).
What to expect booking an introductory call with me
I offer a free consultation of fifteen minutes as an initial screening to understand your goals, and hopes for therapy. It may be a place to gain some information on some of your initial mental health difficulties, and how this has developed. Hopefully following this you can then get a sense if this therapy and our therapeutic relationship is right for you. Following this introductory call, if you wish to proceed with booking a therapy appointment, you will be provided with a therapeutic contract to review prior to your first appointment. We will then set a date and time for your first appointment.
Thank you for visiting my site. It can be quite daunting finding a therapist that suits you, so I hope you are able to find a therapist that does. Any questions please do ask.
Kindest Regards,
Jess
