Jenny Gibbons MA, BAEd HCPC Art Psychotherapist & Supervisor
I am a HCPC registered psychotherapist, art psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with experience working with all ages, young children, adolescents and adults. I offer a non judgemental, calm and supportive space where difficult, upsetting or problematic thoughts and feelings can be worked through and held in the therapeutic relationship through art making (if you wish) and discussion. Some of these problems may be deep rooted, unresolved personal difficulties, others may be the after effects of something more recent. I work sensitively, following your pace and attuning to what your needs are in the therapy space.
I work with a psychodynamic model, meaning that I base my thinking and theory in the here and now. I think and feel about the communications in the room, often through art making and try to put into words what I think is happening for you, facilitating change and a deeper understanding of expression and self.
Art psychotherapy is often a more accessible form of therapy as difficult thoughts and feelings which are hard, confusing or upsetting to verbalise can find form and be processed in the artwork. Because art psychotherapy is based around expressive rather than aesthetic creativity, you do not need to be 'good' at art or have any prior experience in the arts. Art materials will be available for use during sessions but this is your choice.
I am fully insured to practice, hold an enhanced DBS and have regular safeguarding and professional development to keep my work up to date with recent developments and neurological research.
I am also a clinical supervisor for trainees, therapists, counsellors and art psychotherapists working with children and adolescents and/or school settings.
