About me

Hi, my name is Jenny and I am trained in delivering Person-Centred, Humanistic and Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling.

I welcome clients from all walks of life and for a wide range of issues.

I will work alongside you to try to understand what is at the root of your distress, for issues including anxiety, depression, coping with previous traumatic life events, or the strain of dealing with difficult human relationships, for example.

Often mental distress can overshadow every part of life. My aim is to help you find deeper understanding, to find healthy ways to cope, to place a high value on your mental health and to explore what else might be possible within the constraints of day to day life. I offer acceptance and the willingness to accompany you through your explorations of life's hurts, whatever they may be.

Working with adults over the age of 16, I also work specifically with clients in addiction recovery, and with their friends and family members.

Why not get in touch to arrange a no-obligation telephone call.

This call is designed to see if we may be well-suited to working together. I am happy to work in person, or remotely UK-wide on the phone or on Zoom, so you can fit therapy easily into your life and to minimise any Covid concerns about face-to-face meetings that you may have. I have a strong belief in the ability of humans to heal and to overcome, no-matter what has gone before.

Whatever brings you to counselling, I pledge to listen deeply and attempt to understand your world, in your words. We will discover how best to approach your challenges together, so please get in touch to see if I am the right person to help.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to give me a call or send me an email, I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Accredited member of the National Counselling Society
  • Individual member of BACP
  • L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, Person-Centred/Existential (CPCAB)
  • L3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory (Cache)
  • L2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (Cache)
  • Person-Centred Approach, along with Existential elements.

The term "Person-Centred" is not something everyone is familiar with, so I feel the best way for me to describe what "Person-Centred" means to me, is that my approach is based on the philosophy that I don't facilitate real change in another person by simply instructing them how to change. I don't give my clients "advice" in the traditional sense. I believe the nature of real change is that it takes place on a deeper level and is led by the client themselves. Through being able to explore, without fear of judgement, what is distressing, painful, shameful or deeply buried, a person can begin to free themselves from the pain of past experiences. I am not a teacher of coping techniques, but prefer to get to the root cause of the problem and find out how to facilitate a better quality of life, from there.

I volunteer as a Counsellor at a Drug and Alcohol Counselling service in Surrey,  where I work with people in addiction recovery and their friends & family members. I have also worked with young people in a YMCA mentoring program. Please see my website for my Continued Professional Development (CPD Training).

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I will leave you with this quote, which I love:

"It’s through a dynamic emergent process of confrontation with the truth, that solutions arise. Trauma involves a lifelong pushing down— a tremendous expenditure of energy– into not feeling the pain. As we heal, that same energy is liberated for life and for being in the present. So the energy of trauma can be transformed into the energy of life."  Dr. Gabor Maté
