Counselling and Psychotherapy
We offer individual solutions for individual people. Counselling and psychotherapy can be many things depending on what you wish to gain from it. At the start of therapy, you and your counsellor will decide on what type of approach you would like to undertake. Often it is helpful to explore where things came from and to develop understanding and insight about how this is affecting you now. In this way, we look to unravel the past in order to resolve it. We can also look at helping you cope in the present and looking at what you can do now to help yourself in the future. Counselling can provide an opportunity to understand oneself; what we do and why we do things.
We provide a dedicated, safe, non-judgmental and confidential space and time which you can use to talk and be heard. People often find that just talking things through in this way is helpful. Counselling provides a different perspective than when talking things through with family or friends. A counsellor is an independent person outside of any family or relationship issue. Counselling is not about giving advice; it is about supporting you to think through your problems and make positive decisions for yourself.
Adding horses into therapy sessions can have a very profound effect. Below are just some of the benefits of Equine Therapy.
Horses and other animals are great at living in the present moment and can help to ground people in the here and now experience, instead of getting lost in the worries of past and future.
Horses are non-judgmental, congruent, responsive and honest creatures. They are sensitive to very subtle cues and so encourage us to be more self-aware. Horses are sensitive to emotions and react in the moment to give biofeedback on how we come across to others and how congruent we are truly being. This gives us the opportunity to explore, understand and develop ourselves.
Horses are social herd animals and a prey species; in forming and maintaining a relationship with an animal like this is a profound undertaking and can gift great personal insight.
Equine Therapy is an experiential therapy and involves participating in safe guided exercises on the ground with the horses, which can bring about significant personal growth and learning experiences. Horse experience is not required to participate in Equine Therapy.
We have a herd of horses which you can come and experience Equine Therapy with, alternatively, if you have your own horses and wish to experience Equine Therapy with them, then this is also a possibility.
"Horses have the uncanny ability to illuminate who we are and where we need to go. They respond to us as unique individuals and somehow understand who we are in our hearts and souls. Horses can touch deep recesses in us that are inaccessible to most people-regions people are afraid to address in others, much less in themselves."
– McCormick and McCormick
After experiencing Equine Therapy, clients have reported improvements in many different areas of their lives. Among other things, Equine Therapy can help you gain more self-confidence, self-awareness and emotional regulation; it can help you improve your boundary setting, communication skills and assertiveness.
Hypnotherapy is a form of treatment which involves the use of hypnosis in order to change unconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation where your unconscious mind becomes more open to suggestions which allows the hypnotherapist to aid you in reaching your goals.
Hypnotherapy is not the same as stage hypnosis or hypnosis you may have seen in films. Hypnotherapy cannot make you do or say anything you do not wish to, you are still under your own control throughout and can bring yourself out of hypnosis should you wish to. Hypnotherapy is safe and most clients find it relaxing and enjoyable.
